President Trump is not “a self-styled demagogue,” as you describe him (“Trump, tweets and the truth,” Our View, Aug. 16). By definition, a “self-styled demagogue” is one who calls himself a demagogue. I know what you meant, but that’s how these #fakenews things get started.
Worse, the Cape Cod Times has joined newspapers across the nation in running coordinated anti-Trump editorials on the same day. I fear you have let the president troll you into providing evidence for his assertion that the press is united against him.
You are quite right that Trump is engaged in a steady stream of vitriol against the press. He has not, however, closed any newspapers or jailed any journalists. Trump uses only the same weapon the press uses against him – words. The press is not the “enemy of the people,” but Trump is right that they are plainly his enemy and have contempt for many of the people who voted for him.

The only paper in the country that called it correctly was the daily in Pittsburgh which said that the press is part of the problem .The print media was in a slide to the bottom long before Trump was elected. He has been pointing that out with great success much to the dislike
of the liberal media which instead of some self reflection and an occasional mea culpa, act like victims which is ridiculous.
